Smokey is a 2 year old rescued "Blue Tick" hound. Smokey was saved from lethal injection from a high kill shelter. His rescuer explained that he was obtained by someone who wanted to use him exclusively for hunting. This heartless person decided to throw him in a pen with some pigs when he was a few months old. Like any baby, he was extremely upset and afraid, and hurt himself trying to get out of the pen. They decided that he was too submissive and turned him in to face the fate of death. Fortunately for him, he made his way into the heart of a small animal recuse organization. They decided that he had something in his eyes which made this boy special. His current owners ran across him at a local pet stores adoption day event. They were shopping for an aquarium for a pet turtle. Smokey was present and described to be curled up in a ball inside a crate, bewildered, sad and afraid. After leaving the store and doing other errands, they just could not stop thinking of him. The rest is history, and his life of misery and abuse would be no longer. Smokey is extremly grateful for his new home & family. His owner Rick say "he's truly a great dog and follows me around like a shadow. He wants to sit in my lap all the time even though he weighs 95 lbs". Smokey is playful, sweet and not aggressive. In fact he is a bit timid and has lots of patience. Rick's wife Jill believes that Smokey views Rick as "his pack" and sees him as if he were a dog (like we see our animals as people some times). With eyes like his how could you not love him! This sweet giant lives like a king now, ruling over all the water fowl and activity which surrounds him at his lake house in Georgia. I painted Smokey in blue for obvious reasons, but his personality and life is colorful, happy and bright sunny yellow!
