Thanks
for visiting the "Other Products & Activities"
section of our site. This section highlights key organizations
and groups which share our vision in raising funds from
the sales of their products and services. It also highlights
other activities in which I am engaged, ranging from non-profit
volunteer programs to private workshops. Remember, some
or all of the proceeds of the funds raised from the r products
displayed on this page and/or the activities in which we
participate go to animal, wildlife, conservation, environmental,
or other humane causes. Please endorse those people and
organizations which offer "conscious alternatives"
to traditional products and services. Consider a gift that
really cares.....be accountable, and shop and act in a responsible
fashion.

Kalahari
Raptor Center presents
"For the Love of Wildlife", a special
book written by authors Beverley Pervan and Chris Mercer,
about a Namibian family who founded the Harnas Lion Sanctuary,
and who made extraordinary sacrifices to save the wild animals
of Africa.
In
order to raise funds to supplement programs of the center,
Bev and Chris offer this incredible book to help them reclamation
the land for wildlife, and follow in the footsteps of one
of their many inspirations. The story is of a lion fighting
to keep his family alive, the love of a young girl and her
beloved lion, Mufasa and the tragedy which can tear a family
apart. Additionally, there is a tale of Bagheera the crippled
Cheetah who manages to captured everyone's heart. These
lessons are powerful and offer education in a creative way
on why our wilderness is vanishing at such a frightening
rate, and how the existing wildlife conservation agencies
are failing to have any useful effect.
EXCERPTS
FROM THE BOOK "FOR THE LOVE OF WILDLIFE" Chapter
1. SIMBA. Almost immediately he saw something that made
his heart skip a beat. There, on top of his own bootprints
were the pugmarks of the lion, following him. The lion had
circled back and come up behind him only minutes before.
At this moment, certain thoughts which had been lying undisturbed
in the back of Rudy's mind were suddenly projected to the
forefront. These included that he was alone and unarmed,
that the safety of the bakkie was several hundred meters
away and that should he be attacked, he could count upon
one certainty, the Bushmen would run away.........

Special
Art & Nature Classes for Kids
|
During
special weekends throughout the year, Liz volunteers
her time to act as an "animal interpreter",
"art experimenter" and "creative story
teller" teaching unique workshops with children
of all ages around Georgia. Her sessions include focus
on "Art & Nature", and topic of some
of her classes spanned content about all kinds of
beasties such as snakes and snails, and well...you
get the idea. Some examples are: "Bonkers
about Birds", where she explores spring
nesting activities by resident Georgia song birds,
allowing children to see a real Screech Owl while
creating their own take home nests from natural supplies;
pine needle, dryer lint, sticks, moss and clay. Also
one of the most popular art classes;or "Silly
about Snakes", she explores wildlife habitats,
reviewing facts about Georgia poisonous & non-poisonous
snakes, and then introducing the children (and some
frantic parents) to one of centers resident snakes.
Above, a brave girl feels the scales without any
fear at a special snake class!

The animal presentations are between 1-3 hours in
length, begin with a creative folk lore story, where
kids and parents can "play a part", followed
by a crafting session, animal bio-facts presented
in a fun and challenging way, and a surprise visit
with "the real thing". Liz currently offers
her class at the AWARE (Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue
Effort by reservation only. For more information,
contact them as www.awareone.org
- 678-418-1111. She can be booked at Autrey Mills
Nature Center as well. For arrangements, call them
at 770-360-8844.

for toddlers. Classes can be booked as part of a special
event, birthday party or just for a fun weekend. Adults
are encouraged to participate with their children.

class, contact Liz directly at info@liznicholas.com.

The
picture to the left and below shows children participating
in a program called "Why
is Ms. Opossums Tail is Bare". These
lucky kids painted recycled paper mache opossums after
they heard a Native American Folklore story. The best
part of the class included an interactive story telling
session, were the children's grandparents and parents
"played" parts in the story, creation of
a unique "take home" craft, and finally
a visit with the nature centers resident Ms. Opossum
up close and personal.

To
the right, kids paint paper mache snakes in an outdoor
wildlife workshop at Arabia Mountain with AWARE. The
workshop consisted of a "folklore" story
about the "Snake Who Had Big Feet",
followed by discussing native Georgia snakes, painting
their own snake, and finally interaction with one
of the centers animal snake ambassadors.

Liz show here with Smashie, one of the animal ambassadors
at AWARE, enjoys an afternoon on the porch, and a little
nuzzling time. Smashie came to the center after being
treated and rehab'd following an accident with a car.
She is not releasable because of neurological damage
which prohibits her from amply grasping her food. She
lives the "life of Riley" at the center where
she receives catered meals, enjoys regular outings,
and frequently goes to speak to school children. Her
message offers solid reasoning on why squirrels are
an important part of our eco-system, in that she, an
all of her kind, are responsible for the sprouting of
new seedlings each spring, maintenance of the forest
floors, and just entertainment for many of us who have
pooches who enjoy squirrel watching. |

Wildlife
Works is a new company dedicated to ensuring a bright
future for wildlife. WW provides people in places like East
Africa with economically sound alternatives to poaching, clear-cutting
and over-harvesting of limited natural resources. They've
formed an unique partnership of business, wildlife conservation
and community development concerns to address the single biggest
challenge facing conservation today: how to help communities
in developing areas grow and prosper without destroying precious
habitat and the wildlife that call it home. This is all done
so villages are able to establish schools, much needed medical
clinics and other essentials, and at the same time, the wildlife
thrives too! Read more about how Wildlife Works is working
to help this world, and all that inhabit it, and how you can
support their efforts. And please visit their marketplace.
When you purchase any of their environmental friendly products,
you are contributing directly to their wildlife and conservation
efforts in rural Africa! And as they say, the purchase you
make feels as good as it looks! |
