Greyhounds can be traced back 8000 years to early cave drawings and artifacts. Modern greyhounds descended from the Egyptians, and were considered a GOD, as they appear in murals on the tombs of kings. Sadly, because of dog racing, this breed has been highly exploited and abused. I wonder why a dog of such rich and noble history, has been forced into a dangerous and cruel activity that is fueled by the suffering and death of thousands of nonhuman animals. The number of states that still allow this type of "entertainment" is dwindling, and many groups, as well as individuals, are fighting to bring an end to the industry. Many of their efforts focuses on the abuse and mistreatment inflicted on these poor creatures and posits that anti-cruelty statutes are ineffective protection for greyhounds because they are interpreted within a framework that considers nonhuman animals property and that excludes nonhuman animals from moral consideration. Because of this, the most, and likely only, effective way to protect the greyhounds is to abolish greyhound racing.

Lisa's story: This poor girl was taken to a Georgia shelter in horrendous condition. She was pulled from the shelter by a local Greyhound rescuer along along with a mixed breed who was turned in with her. The evening she was pulled, the attending vet didn't think she would make it through the night. She was weak to the point that she could not stand. She was literally "a bag of bones". Along with a strange eye infection, there was little to no hope for this sweet soul. Her rescuer did all she could for her, and even took her to a few other vet specialists. Over this time, Lisa held on to the hope that finally someone loved her. She recovered. Love is what kept this sweet girl going! Love is what she needed...and that came from in the form of two loving two legged types; (Helen & Joe). Life looked good, and Lisa was moved to a home with two more of her kind. She is now retiring and living the life she deserves. Lisa was painted in blue not because of her sadness, but because of her sweet nature, her cool demeanor, and because she's "like the sky", vast, stunningly beautiful and like the heavens, which goes on as far as the eye can see and the heart can feel.......just like the love she offers....and never wavers!
