Kenne
Boy, a black lab mix, was literally picked up off a major
interstate in Kennesaw Georgia, in the year 2000. He was close to
death, as he weighed 1/3 of the potential body weigh of an average
lab. He was quite the spectacle as his hairless, lumpy body approached
a passerby on I75 looking for the "right" car to fulfill
his request for a ride. Cancer which had taken over different areas
of his body, a diagnosis of severe arthritis, infections in his
mouth due to poor nutrition all showed prominently on his skinny
body. None of these ailments kept him from jumping right into the
back seat of his rescuers car as if he owned it. He knew this was
his way out of a life on the road! There was something glowing from
deep within this fellow, and his rescuer saw it from the minute
he settled in for his ride "home". Kenne built a log cabin,
resting on perhaps the first bed he may have ever slept on, in a
safe place, with an angle at the wheel. Vets gave Kenne only 4 months
to live. He came to me to retire, for what I thought was a limited
but precious time. But to my delight he graced me with 2 ½
wonderful and loving years. His hair grew back and looked like a
fancy velvet cape. He swam frequently in a nearby lake with the
comfort of a life preserver for fun and exercise. He ate homemade
breakfast, lunches and dinners, (gaining back 100% of his body weigh),
and spent most of his days relaxing in the company of two grateful
female canine companions in the sun. Kenne died at my home, on his
bed peacefully, in the safely of the arms of those who loved him.
He is a testament of the "will to survive", and showed
that love conquers all! This painting celebrates the life of this
special soul. I am so thankful for all that he has given me. His
smiling face still give me great joy today...I hope it does for
you as well. (Liz Nicholas)
