"We
Are Their World"
This painting was created exclusively for Animal Friends
of Pittsburgh. The animals in this painting were at
one time all residents of the shelter.
Animal
Friends has been offering a second chance to homeless
and unwanted and abused animals without the threat of euthanasia
since 1943. The shelter concept was created at the height
of WWII, when many of Pittsburgh's pets were left behind
as their owners were called to serve in the military. From
this action, a small and dedicated group of individuals
joined together to find homes for these wonderful animals.
Now located in the Pittsburgh Strip District, they operate
a full service shelter, and provide space for 156 animals
(felines and canines). The shelter is committed to serving
not only the animals who reside there waiting adoption but
pet owners and the community as a whole. They offer a variety
of programs ranging from Adoption and Placement services,
to Spay and Neuter assistance, Pet Assisted Therapies, and
Humane education in schools to name a few.
The painting entitled "We Are Their World"
was created solely for the use in this years falls fundraising
event titled "Black Tie & Tails", to
be held at Heinz Field on Saturday November 2nd. It is our
hope that this painting brings in a large bid, as the proceeds
of this auction will go directly to the shelter.
